Description

Wayne County is seeking an organized, multi-faceted and forward thinking Project Engineer to enhance the Engineering Division and its construction oversight. This is an exciting opportunity to work with highly skilled engineers in Wayne County to provide excellent road construction and maintenance for all users of the roadways.

The Project Engineer will be responsible for senior level engineering management in Construction, Testing and Permits for the Wayne County Department of Public Services (DPS) Engineering Division. providing technical advice to personnel regarding design, construction, and structural repairs.

The expected responsibilities will include modifying projects, plans and programs to meet the changing needs of the Engineering Division, review and direct activities at the project site; review soils and construction materials for adequacy, strength and specifications to Wayne County standards; determine feasibility of projects by reviewing quantities/costs of materials, equipment, labor and personnel resources; prepare and present reports on topics such as bid proposals, deeds, environmental impact, and property and right-of-way descriptions. The Project Engineer will also interact closely with governing agencies such as MDOT, Federal Highway Administration, and local municipalities in Wayne County regarding construction and maintenance projects. This position will receive direction from the Director and Deputy Director of the Department of Public Services.

Qualified individuals will possess the following:

 

A Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited college or university; AND at least ten (10) years of full-time experience performing engineering duties in Construction, Testing, or Permits as a Project Manager, or Project Engineer for State or Federally funded road and bridge construction projects (a minimum of three (3) years of this experience must be as a Construction Engineer); AND a valid and current Professional Engineering License in the State of Michigan; AND a valid State of Michigan Driver's License with an acceptable, safe driving record.
