Experience equivalent to five (5) years of full-time paid experience, within the last 8 years, performing carpentry work in three (3) of the following areas:
1. Constructing, maintaining and repairing wooden structures and equipment (including erecting and working from scaffolding);
2. Making and repairing doors, window screens, cabinets, benches and other wooden equipment;
3. Maintaining and repairing overhead doors and roofs;
4. Repairing and replacing overhead doors, locks, venetian blinds and awnings; OR
Completed a Carpenter apprenticeship program and possess a current Journeyman's card; AND
A valid State of Michigan Driver's License and an acceptable safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF THE APPLICATION).
DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
Carpenters perform work as rough and finish Carpenters in the construction, maintenance and repair of wooden structures, buildings and equipment. Assignments are usually made orally, but they may be in the form of penciled sketches or blueprints. The work is performed according to the standard practices of the trade, subject to review by a Carpenter Foreman, in process and on completion.
In the shop, Carpenters operate power saws, planes, drills, sanders, jointers and other standard power equipment in making doors, window screens, cabinets, benches and other wooden equipment and furnishings.
In the field, employees perform skilled carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, overhead doors and windows. This work may involve erecting and working from scaffolding.
