The SQL ServerDatabase Administrator (DBA)will be responsible for managing the enterprise-wide databases in production, development and test environments; database integrity, security, disaster recovery, and performance tuning, audits, oversees the scheduling of database projects, database and transactions log backups, notifications and database replication between multiple SQL Servers and remote sites, and maintain documentation on database recovery and architecture.

The SQL Server DBA will work closely with the data services and development group on database design and implementation projects and will be part of an on-call rotation providing 24x7 support. The SQL Server DBA will work with vendors to determine upgrade paths and will maintain documentation and standards for DBA tasks.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Implement problem detection and prevention strategies to reduce database problems and improve service quality
  • Perform database installations, migrations, patches, and upgrades
  • Design, configure, test, and support high-availability clustering utilizing Microsoft technologies
  • Monitor and maintain security and performance needs of relational databases
  • Develop, maintain and test database backups, recovery plans, active database replications and database clusters.
  • Monitor long running code and to optimize query executions with index tuning and optimized T-SQL coding techniques.
  • Define and maintain database maintenance standards including configuration, backups, HA options etc..
  • Maintain existing and design, develop and implement OLTP database schema design, stored procedures, XML, FileStream, FileTables, etc.
  • Writes powershell scripts to automate and maintain data.
  • Control access permissions and privileges
  • Consult with developers and report writers to design and optimize SQL queries,
  • Consult with applications team to provide capacity planning and database deployment recommendations.
  • Responsible for troubleshooting and resolution of SQL Server production issues, provide SL2 and SL3 support
  • Participate in the resolution of complex design and implementation issues across projects.
  • Participate in a 7x24 on-call rotation.

Acceptable candidates will possess:

A Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar discipline from a recognized college or university (related work experience will be evaluated at the discretion of the Department of Human Resources); AND

At least 7 years of hands on experience in managing production SQL Server databases; AND

At least3 years of experience as lead SQL Server DBA; AND

At least 3 years of experience working with Windows/SQL HA technologies (clustering, mirroring, log shipping, etc); AND

At least 1 year of experience working with ETL development, MS SQL Server SSIS
