QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university with a major in Environmental or Natural Sciences or a closely related field; AND
  • At least six (6) months of experience, full-time, part-time, internship, or volunteer, in the environmental or natural sciences field; AND
  • A valid State of Michigan Driver's License and an acceptable safe driving record. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON THE FRONT OF APPLICATION.)

NOTE: Environmentalists (Naturalist) will be required to have an automobile for transportation during working hours on a mileage basis reimbursement.

JOB DUTIES:

Environmentalists (Naturalist) are employed in the Department of Public Services. They prepare and present illustrated lectures and interpretive communications about park features; plan and organize public special events at the park; develop environmental educational programs and curricula for schools, libraries, scout groups, home school groups; construct historical, scientific, and nature visitor-center displays, and assist with the handling of live animals and monitoring animal population. Environmentalists (Naturalist) will also perform light trail work, coordinate summer camp, and training seasonal and volunteer staff.
