(INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION).SPECIAL CONDITIONSCandidates must have access to transportation on a daily basis and be willing to travel to different parts of the County as needed.Appointees will be exposed to potentially infectious material and must be able to adhere to universal precautions at all times.Appointees in this class must successfully complete and be certified in HIV/AIDS Counseling and Testing, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Sexually Transmitted Diseases training and Partner Counseling and Referral Services (PCRS) training within 12 months of appointment. Regular status in this class will not be granted until such training and certification is complete and documentation is provided. Failure to complete certification will result in reinstatement to a vacant position in their former class.


In the Division of Community Wellness, the Social Services Specialist (Health) will be assigned to appropriate programs. This employee will be trained to draw blood, obtain oral swabs or other appropriate specimens on persons who may be infected with a variety of diseases and must demonstrate competence during his/her probationary period. This employee will be expected to handle blood and other potentially infectious materials in a proper manner, following safety requirements established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Other responsibilities include: counseling clients regarding pre-and post-testing results; referring clients for appropriate follow-up care and delivering specimens and other materials to various locations. This employee may also be required to develop and present educational and news media materials to the public and provide in-service training and lectures to a variety of groups regarding the transmission and prevention of AIDS, STD's and other diseases. Other duties include following epidemiology trends; coordinating program activities, disseminating of program information; developing and designing of educational materials.
