The Department of Public Services, Pump Station Mechanics may work at various wastewater facilities such as Southgate Wyandotte Relief Drains Drainage District, Milk River Inter-county Drain or Northeast Sewage Disposal System facilities.  The Pump Station Mechanic works under general supervision.  Duties will include, but are not limited to:  perform scheduled and preventative maintenance on all equipment; perform routine tasks for interior cleaning, including, but not limited to, sweeping, mopping, cleaning of bathrooms and work areas; perform exterior ground maintenance, including, but not limited to, snow removal, grass cutting and trimming; complete record keeping of wet weather event data and work orders; operate pumping stations and facilities during storm events, including reasonable off-shift overtime, monitor control systems, take samples and perform analyses; assists with confined space entry, as necessary; trains new staff and performs other duties as assigned.  The Pump Station Mechanic regularly works with hand tools, power tools, lawn mower, snow blower and personal computer/printer.





  • Two (2) years full-time paid experience maintaining and repairing mechanical equipment; OR;
  • One (1) year of the above experience AND a one (1) year vocational course in mechanics or machine shop; AND;
  • A valid State of Michigan Driver's License and a safe driving record with fewer than 9 points. (INDICATE MICHIGAN DRIVER'S LICENSE NUMBER ON FRONT OF APPLICATION.)



A Written test will be administered covering mechanical and mathematical aptitude.
