Purpose/Description Cooperative Engineers may work in the Field Engineering Office located in the city of Wayne or in the Design Office located in Downtown Detroit. Field Engineering has responsibilities in surveying, layout of civil engineering projects (road and bridge construction), taping, measuring angles using electronic theodolites, and establishing vertical control using automatic levels and self-reading or direct reading rods. Survey crews will obtain boundary and field topography information. During construction season, overtime will be available. In the Design Office, Engineers will assist in the design of civil engineering projects including roadways, bridges, culverts, structures, and bike paths. This will include the use of hand drawn or AutoCAD drafting, calculation of material estimates, copying of plans, assisting with field reviews and surveys and reviewing of calculations and plans.
