Wayne County is seeking a Division Director of Veterans Services to direct the daily operations of the Division of Veteran Services in the Department of Health, Veterans and Community Services.

The Division Director leads and supports the services, contracts, funding and projects associated with Veterans Affairs to ensure the effectiveness of services delivery, resource utilization and results.  Responsibilities include performing oversight in addressing the immediate emergency request of clients who qualify for emergency assistance, planning and conducting outreach to the veteran community within Wayne County, advocating on behalf of Veterans and their special needs connected to past military service, and continually monitoring and staying informed of veteran issues as they relate to the mission of the division and conduct staff training.

The Division Director collaborates with other government agencies to improve the services provided to qualified veterans and their spouses, widow, widowers and dependent children, provides supervision of division staff, oversight of the implementation of burial assistance applications, oversees grant compliance and resource allocation, while remaining within budget and plans the Division's budget for the fiscal years.


  • An Associates or Bachelors level degree preferred.
  • Honorable Discharged Military Veteran with 5-10 years' experience dealing with veteran issues and advocacy on behalf of veterans and their dependents
  • Knowledge of grant funding sources and acquiring grant funds.
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and local funding sources.
  • Knowledge of contract management.
  • Knowledge of project management.
  • Knowledge of personnel policies, practices, and procedures.
