Purpose/Description
The Network Engineer is an advanced analytical and technical services position that involves designing, developing, implementing, and maintaining large enterprise-wide network systems, complex networked microcomputer, telecommunications, and automation systems. Responsibilities may include researching and analyzing business needs, formulating and defining system scope and objectives, and designing/developing systems and/or enhancements to existing systems capable of fully meeting business needs and objectives. Network Engineers perform a full range of system support functions requiring a technical network support background. Work is performed under limited supervision.
Required Education and Experience
- A Bachelor's Degree from a recognized college or university in Computer Science, Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Management Information Systems or a closely related degree as deemed acceptable by the Department of Personnel/Human Resources. or equivalent work experience; AND
- At least six (6) years of full time paid experience working in an enterprise environment performing advanced level Cisco routing and switching.
OR
- A high school diploma or GED; AND
- At least ten (10) years of full time paid experience working in an enterprise environment performing advanced level Cisco routing and switching.

- Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
- DNA/ISE
- Catalyst 9K
- Nexus 9K
- Creating and editing Visio Diagrams
- Firewall migration/implementation experience
- VPN
- Packet shapers
- SnifferWire Shark
- Solar Winds NPM experience
- Voice/Data System Wiring Infrastructure and Management
- OSPF
Tasks
- Troubleshoot and/or resolve network problem calls dispatched by the Wayne County Call Center
- Gather information for root cause analysis and document findings
- Perform network maintenance and upgrades as identified by network management tools
- Manage support vendors
- Configure or reconfigure switches and routers as needed
- Perform firewall policy tasks as required
- Ensure documentation of all modifications
- Off-hours support for LAN/WAN problem calls
- Perform other tasks as assigned by supervisor
