Job Summary

The Registered Dietitian Nutritionist 3 (RDN 3) is primarily responsible for providing nutritional education, guidance, counseling, and oversight to all aspects of the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) nutrition service program and ensuring implementation of policies as well as adhering to the standards and guidelines of the WIC Program.

  • Required Tasks
    • Function as a Team Lead by assigning, assisting, and checking work (done daily, weekly, and monthly) to their support staff.
    • Serve as clinic lead communicating staff and client concerns to WIC management.
    • Assists in providing training and evaluation experiences for students enrolled in health-related intern programs.
    • Monitor and maintain clinic supply orders and clinic cleanliness.
    • Monitor and maintain clinic appointment schedules, onsite lists, and daily workflow.
    • Completion of all required reports and compilation of all monthly clinic paperwork.
    • Maintain WIC EBT card inventory.
    • Process incoming formula returns and outgoing formula donations with all required documentation.
    • Hold keys and/or alarm codes for individual clinic site(s).
    • Provides ideas and contributes to the execution of the local agency Nutrition Education Plan and/or serves as the agency Nutrition Education Coordinator
    • Helps develop nutrition education materials, newsletters, outreach information, etc.
    • Assists in training and in-services for other WIC and HHVS staff members.
    • Assists with the orientation and training of staff.
    • Assists in providing consultation to area institutions, community organizations and alternative community feeding programs to promote a comprehensive nutrition program.
    • Assists in quality assurance, accreditation, and public health nutrition program endeavors.
    • Conducts nutritional and biometric assessments for selected populations.
    • Integrate clinical, biochemical, and dietary information to identify nutritional/health risks/needs of families to formulate a plan of long- and short-term care.
    • Manage information by documenting data gathered including the qualifications for the program, immunization assessments and the qualifying nutritional health risk, in accordance with policies and procedures.
    • Develop high-risk care plans for at risk clients and counsel, as needed to effect positive health outcomes including the documentation of all activities and follow up interventions in a timely manner.
    • Implement nutrition risk education by conducting individual and group education sessions.
    • Determine approval of food packages and/or special formula requests in accordance with policy and procedures.
    • Provides client-centered education and referrals to clients and families relative to breastfeeding, immunizations, parenting, health care, prenatal care, safety, substance use, communicable diseases, environmental health, and other subjects as needed by client.
    • Integrate a variety of software applications including but not limited to MI-WIC, MCIR, WIC Direct, CHAMPS, RightFax and Outlook.
    • Compiles statistics and data needed to complete monthly reports and time studies required by the program.
    • Attending state and local WIC meetings and trainings as required.
    • Ability to express nutrition principles in oral and written form, using language interpretation services as necessary, to individuals and groups.
    • Address the diversity of individuals, families and groups when implementing policies, programs and services that affect the health of a community.
    • Ability to exercise mature judgment and initiative in analyzing problems and recommending solutions.
    • Excellent customer service, written and oral communication skills.
    • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail.
    • Documentation of participation in professional meetings and educational programs to maintain familiarity with current principles and practices of nutrition and dietetics with annual reporting of continuing professional education units (CPEUs).

Qualifications

  • Educational Requirements
    • Bachelor of Science degree (Masters preferred), Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) through the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
    • Must have a valid State of Michigan driver's license.
    • Registered as a dietitian with the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
    • NOTE- A master's degree from an accredited college or university in Public Health, Nutrition, Dietetics, or closely related area may be substituted for one year of experience.
  • Experience Requirements
    • At least five (5) years of experience full-time professional RDN experience in a public health or outpatient dietetic setting.
