Purpose/Description

The Senior Project Supervisor, under the general direction of the Senior Licensed Professional Engineer and/or Licensed Professional Engineer in the Construction unit, performs a variety of duties in connection with construction administration, field implementation and record keeping per the most current Special Provisions, Standard Specifications for Construction, MDOT Office Technician techniques for Construction Document Management and Wayne County procedures. The position will be required to be knowledgeable in all aspects of the Field Manager system, LCP Tracker, project wise and any procedures regarding project management documentation. The Senior Project Supervisor must understand the design plans and associated specifications and standards and will make recommendations to the Design Engineer during the design phase.

Required Tasks

  • Interpret plans and specifications on contract construction projects and provide guidance to the contractors and Project Supervisors.
  • Take a leadership role in making daily assignments for the Project Supervisors. Verify the accuracy and completeness of the Projects Supervisor's daily reports to assure processing into Field Manager within 2 business days of when the contractors work was performed.
  • Take a lead role to assure projects are closed out within 120 days of the contract completion date. Must supervise the inspection of construction materials and final quantities.
  • Provide a project update by meeting, (at minimum weekly) with the Engineer 3 and 4 in Construction. Discuss any potential plan changes, cost increases or contract delays and extensions of time prior to occurring or any material document deficiencies that could delay contractor payment, make recommendations to the Construction Engineer.
  • Prepare certified payroll(s) to be entered into ProjectWise.
  • Prepare contract modifications.
  • Review design plans and provide recommendations at the G.I. meeting and prior to plan turn in for bidding. (Potential Plan Changes)
  • Maintain records of inspection and supervisor certifications.
  • Serve as a back-up for the office tech during their absence to assure. that pay estimates are prepared and processed in a timely manner for the Construction Engineer's review and approval.


Educational/Experience Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or similar Engineering Associate Degree as determined acceptable by the Department of Personnel and two (2) years of experience as a Project Supervisor in the Construction Unit --OR--
  • A High School diploma or equivalent and three (3) years of experience as a Project Supervisor in the Construction Unit
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience (based on educational requirements) at the Project Supervisor level in Road and Bridge Construction with Wayne County federally funded projects or 3 years of experience as a construction inspector on Road or Bridge Construction projects outside of Wayne County.
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable driving record.
