SCOPE:

The Economic Development department is looking for a skilled and creative Web Developer to join as a contractor for our Economic Development team. In this role, you will be responsible for building two public-facing websites. You will oversee the design and development of the website to ensure the best user experience and seamless functionality.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Website Development: Develop, test, and maintain websites that are responsive, fast, and user-friendly.
  • Design: Using our existing branding guide, along with available templates (free or at cost), create website designs,
  • Coding: Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code using languages such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and PHP. Experience with frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js is a plus.
  • Database Management: Work with databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or MongoDB to manage website data and ensure smooth functionality.
  • Troubleshooting & Debugging: Identify and resolve website issues, bugs, or performance problems.
  • SEO Optimization: Ensure website is optimized for search engines (SEO), improving visibility and ranking.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other team members to ensure the websites meet program objectives.
  • Maintenance: Create a staging environment for future updates, enable automatic updates on all software packages, properly store and transfer credentials, provide basic training materials for self-service content updates.
  • Testing & Quality Assurance: Conduct testing of website to ensure compatibility across browsers, devices, and platforms, and optimize for performance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with open-source CMS platforms like WordPress, Drupal, or Joomla.
  • Proficiency in HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and web development frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue.js.
  • Strong understanding of responsive web design principles and mobile-first design.
  • Experience with version control systems, such as Git.
  • Familiarity with web development tools like text editors (e.g., VSCode), task runners (e.g., Gulp), and build systems.
  • Basic knowledge of backend technologies such as PHP, Node.js, or Python.
  • Strong understanding of SEO best practices and web analytics.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:

At least 3 years of experience in web development, with a strong portfolio of completed projects.
