DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

A Prosecutor's Detective performs investigations of allegations regarding violations of city, county, state, and federal laws in one of several areas of investigations. This position will be assigned to one of several specialized units such as Homicide, Drug House, Trials, Elder abuse or Security. Each of these units has unique investigative responsibilities. The Prosecutors Detective will be required to assist prosecutors assigned to these units in preparing their case for court and perform additional investigation if required. This position may be assigned by the prosecutors' office to investigate a crime independent of another law enforcement entity. The Prosecutors Detective assigned to the Security Unit will primarily be responsible for the security of the Prosecutor, the Prosecutor's office and staff.

Required Tasks

  • Locate witnesses.
  • Interview and/or interrogate witnesses, including alibi witnesses.
  • Re-visit crime scenes to gather additional information or physical evidence.
  • Work in conjunction with any one of the 43-law enforcement entities in the county as a liaison officer for the prosecutor's office.
  • Research and obtain certified records from various courts throughout the county.
  • Work in conjunction with Department of Corrections and Attorney Generals' office on detention, extraditions and appeals.
  • Prepare arrest/search warrants.
  • Maintain records of their investigations and keep the Chief of Investigations updated on investigations in progress.
  • .Assist federal agencies upon request.
  • Provide security for the Prosecutor, investigate and assess threats of any kind and prepare a report of same.
  • Perform any additional work as assigned.

Educational Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Have or be eligible for MCOLES certification
  • Possess a valid drivers and CCW license.

Experience Requirements

  • At least 10 years of experience with a law enforcement entity and five years criminal investigative experience is preferred.
  • Executive Protection training preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education and experience that provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be evaluated on an individual basis.
  • Criminal background clearance required
