Description

The Social Service Specialist 1 serves as the primary case manager in the Wayne County Juvenile and Youth Services Department. The Social Service Specialist 1 is responsible for providing case management services to the residents to ensure that the resident has maximum exposure to constitutionally mandated services and other programs.

Required Tasks

  • Proactively identify and connect with at-risk youth in the community.
  • Provide guidance, support, and resources to youth involved in the legal system, including those with out-of-custody warrants.
  • Conduct needs assessments to determine appropriate interventions and services.
  • Develop individualized action plans in collaboration with youth and relevant stakeholders.
  • Monitor youth progress and provide ongoing support and advocacy.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with schools, acting as a resource and liaison for at-risk youth.
  • Collaborate with community partners, such as social service agencies, mental health providers and law enforcement to create a network of support for youth.
  • Participate in community events and initiatives focused on youth development and well-being.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of youth interactions and services provided.
  • Enter data into the JAIS computer system for tracking and reporting purposes.
  • Develop and continuously update a resource booklet with comprehensive information on available services for at-risk youth.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of new programs and initiatives to address emerging needs of at-risk youth.
  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Associates Degree in Social Work or other related human services area.
  • Minimum of one (1) year of experience in child welfare, juvenile justice, mental health or other setting providing services to youth and families.

Special Conditions

  • Candidates must receive Child Welfare Licensing/Child Protective Services clearance.
