Description

Under the general direction of the Division Director of the Roads Division, the Engineer -Senior Licensed Professional in Roads Maintenance oversees the routine maintenance activities of County primary and State and freeway trunklines. The Engineer - Senior Licensed Professional is responsible for snow and ice operations, FOIA requests, preparing specifications for materials and equipment rental contracts and administering contracts among other responsibilities.

Required Tasks

  • Responsible for routine maintenance activities on 728 miles of County primary, 855 County local and 462 miles of State freeway and trunk lines.
  • Responsible for snow and ice/winter operations.
  • Respond to requests for information related to insurance claims, interrogatories and lawsuits.
  • Prepare specifications for purchasing road construction materials and rental equipment.
  • Meet with elected officials and community leaders to facilitate a continued working relationship with various communities, other counties and MDOT.
  • Administer various road repair, major materials and equipment rental contracts.
  • Review road improvement project plans and attend plan review meetings for the same projects.
  • Ensure the Road's Maintenance Division approaches to Roads issues are consistent with Road's Division policies.
  • Work directly under the Assistant Division Director of Roads Division on roads and personnel-related issues as frequently as needed via regular meetings.
  • Communicate regularly with MDOT representatives, Wayne County citizens, Road's Division supervisors, DPS Section employees regularly.
  • Responsible for managing/supervising/leading over 190 employees.
  • Other related duties and special projects as assigned.
Educational and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering/Construction Engineering or Surveying from an accredited university AND
  • Professional Engineer License in the State of Michigan AND
  • A valid Driver's License and an acceptable, safe driving records AND
  • More than 6 years' experience as an Engineer, including 2 of the 6 years managing the maintenance of roads activities; AND
  • 3 months of Engineering/Survey or equivalent experience
