DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES
The Steamfitter Foreman will be responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following: performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance and repairs of pipes and accessories to heating, steam, hot water and refrigeration systems in County owned and operated facilities. The working Foreman is responsible for ensuring that all safety procedures are followed: trains new employees, plan and issue work schedules, discipline procedures, complete daily time sheets, overtime records and requisitions, order materials and distribute supplies and equipment. The working Foreman will directly supervise and coordinate activities of Sub-Foreman and tradesmen staff and schedule assignments. Along with duties inherent in the supervision of employees, the working Foreman may work directly with the public and is expected to facilitate a professional relationship. Work is performed in accordance with standard trade practices.
Required Tasks
- Coordinate, schedule, train and assign work to Steamfitters.
- Supervise Steamfitter staff.
- Work Independently with little supervision & perform other duties as assigned
- Conduct Health and safety inspections.
- Troubleshoot, test operate and perform preventative maintenance on all heating, steam, hot water and refrigeration systems.
- Lay out full scale drawings of pipe systems, supports or related equipment, according to blueprints.
- Assemble or secure pipes, tubes, fittings, or related equipment, according to specifications by welding, brazing, cementing, soldering or threading joints.
- Measure and mark pipes for cutting or threading.
- Inspect, examine, or test installed systems or pipelines, using pressure gauge, hydrostatic testing, observation, or other methods.
- Plan pipe system layout, installation, or repair, according to specifications.
- Attach pipes to walls, structures, or fixtures, such as radiators or tanks, using brackets clamps tools or welding equipment.
- Modify, clean, or maintain pipe systems, units, fittings or related machines or equipment, using hand or power tools.
- Select pipe sizes, types, or related materials such as supports, hangers or hydraulic cylinders, according to specifications.
- Cut or bore holds in structures, such as bulkheads, decks, walls, or mains, prior to pipe installation using hand or power tools.
- Install and maintain pneumatic control systems and related accessories.
- Install and maintain hydraulic systems and related piping, accessories and controls.
- Shut off steam, water or other gases or liquids from pipe sections, using valve keys or wrenches.
- Remove and replace worn components.
- Assist other tradesman on projects
- Other related duties as assigned
- Handling and Moving Objects: Cut metal components for installation
- Drill holes in construction materials
- Fabricate parts or components
- Install gauges or controls
- Install green plumbing or water handling systems
- Install plumbing or piping
- Mark reference points on construction materials
- Weld metal components.
- Inspecting Equipment, Structures, or Material: Inspect plumbing systems or fixtures
- Inspect work sites to identify potential environmental or safety hazards.
- Test green technology installations to verify performance
Educational Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Valid driver's license
- Completion of Laborer Apprenticeship Program
- Candidates considered for placement in this classification will be subject to multiple Criminal background investigations.
Experience Requirements
- Ten (10) years as Journeyman Foreman
- At least five (5) years within the last eight (8) years of experience as a Commercial Laborer
THIS IS A 2ND SHIFT POSITION WITH WORKING HOURS OF 3:00PM - 11:30PM.
