Purpose/Description
The Department Supervisor 3 - Safety reports to the Director of the Division of Roads Maintenance and is responsible for the inspection of all DPS entities ensuring that all Wayne County and DPS safety policies and protocols are being followed. These duties include accident prevention, MIOSHA adherence and all other DPS safety and operational guidelines. The Department Supervisor 3 will perform random inspections of all DPS entities and will report all findings as well as maintain documentation of inspections, train employees and maintain records, along with other assigned duties.
Required Tasks:
- Respond to safety emergencies.
- Conduct various safety surveys and yard inspections at various DPS/Roads work site locations - evaluate work site safety concerns.
- Ensure safety signs are posted in appropriate manner in compliance with safety standards.
- Assist in (CPR/AED, First Aid, mobile crane, aerial lift and fork-lift, etc.) training in coordination with Training Department Manager 2 (Training Supervisor).
- Assist and/or coordinate with required safety related employee training and concerns.
- Assist Risk Management Safety Officer when needed and report any accidents or other concerns involving safety issues
- Maintain documentation and record keeping. Update required safety policies and records.
- Develop or maintain hygiene programs such as fire protections, etc..
- Attend Roads Maintenance Division Safety Committee Meetings and be a member of the committee.
- Attend bi-weekly meeting and other meetings.
- Assist in FOIA requests.
- Assist in acquiring equipment and materials needed for training and safety to maintain compliance with standards, protocols and guidelines.
- Identify MIOSHA concerns and requirements and ensure they are met.
- Inspect for COVID protocols being followed.
- Assist with training on COVID protocols and/or other health and safety protocols.
- Prepare appropriate reports needed to do any other assignments given.
- Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Educational/Experience Requirements
- An Associate's degree or the equivalent credit hours or a higher degree in a health and safety-oriented discipline including MIOSHA and OSHA certifications and
- At least five (5) years of experience in a Roads Maintenance environment AND
- A valid state of Michigan driver's license with a CDL and A and N endorsement and an acceptable driving record
Must have certifications and experience in Health and Safety, HIPPA, Mobile Crane Training and Aerial Lift & Fork Lift Training, CPR, OSHA Outreach Training, Snow & Ice experience, mold inspection, fire safety, knowledge of Hazard Communication Plan for MIOSHA Investigations
