Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs,) at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility, are responsible for providing medical and psychiatric nursing care to the youth/resident population. Assigned functions consist of but not limited to rendering first aid, performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation as needed; administering medication (oral/injectables) while monitoring and reporting adverse reactions is another important aspect of care delivery. Also, LPNs must demonstrate proficiency in practical youth care, such as taking/recording vital signs (temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respiratory rate), and phlebotomy. LPNs primary function is to administer medications. While receiving guidance from the RN Charge Nurse or nursing administration, LPNs are expected to perform procedures only as outlined within their scope of practice, adherence to nursing code of ethics, Nurse Practice Act, Civil Service Rules, and Wayne County policy and procedures is expected.
