JOIN OUR TEAM AS A PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE

Job Description Summary

Employees in this class provide public health nursing services in a variety of settings, including but not limited to: lead, STI/HIV, Communicable Diseases, VFC, TB, Immunizations, and Children's Special Health Care Services and assume more complex caseloads.

They assume charge responsibilities according to seniority, or as needed. Work is performed in the field and in health centers. Duties may include but are not limited to: assessing a wide variety of clients, formulating treatment plans, instituting nursing interventions, following through with medical interventions as outlined in written medical orders and protocols, making client referrals, evaluating patient outcomes; identifying community resources and developing community-based partnerships; participating in the Quality Improvement Committee work, interdisciplinary meetings, and other related group work. These employees may be exposed to clients with communicable or other types of illnesses. Employees must complete and participate in Emergency Preparedness efforts and training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

At the time of application and appointment, applicants must have:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited college or university nursing program; AND
  • A current license as a Registered Nurse in the State of Michigan; AND
  • A valid driver's license and an acceptable safe driving record.

NOTE: Two (2) years of experience in community/public health, acute care pediatrics, obstetrics, and/or medical-surgical nursing and a valid Basic Life Support card is preferred. SPECIAL CONDITIONS Candidates must have an automobile available on a daily basis, driving required for this position will be reimbursed for mileage. Candidates must become credentialed in IS-700 within 90 days of hire and attain all subsequently required credentials in Emergency Preparedness.

EMPLOYEES IN THIS CLASS WILL HAVE AN ADDITIONAL 2% OF BASE SALARY FOR ONE YEAR OF COMPARABLE EXPERIENCE; AN ADDITIONAL 2% FOR 2 OR MORE YEARS OF COMPARABLE EXERIENCE; COMPARABLE EXPERIENCE IS AS A PUBLIC HEALTH NURSE WITHIN THE LAST FIVE YEARS AS APPROVED BY THE DEPARTMENT OF PERSONNEL/HUMAN RESOURCES.
