Description

The Recreation Supervisor is responsible for the development and implementation of the recreation activity program for residents at the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility.

Required Tasks

  • Supervise recreation staff in organizing and scheduling recreation activities (i.e. movies, gym, special programs, arts and crafts, unit activities and/or tournaments).
  • Monitor and organize indoor and outdoor athletic activities and therapeutic activities as needed.
  • Plan and manage various programs which may include group games and sports.
  • Prepare schedules, any necessary reports, and schedules recreation staff in accordance with activities and coverage needed.
  • Ensure maintenance of gym equipment and materials. Requisition various sports equipment, games, incentive rewards, movies and whatever is needed for recreational activities planned.
  • Establish and maintain volunteer programs, including religious programs for staff and act as a liaison to outside community in terms of volunteer activities.
  • Perform other related duties as needed.

Supervision or Managerial Responsibility

  • The Recreation Supervisor will supervise Recreation Leaders.

Education/Experience Requirements

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited school in Recreation, Physical Education, or related field.
  • Three (3) years of experience working with youth in an institutional setting AND
  • One (1) year of experience in the planning, supervision of youth recreation and therapeutic recreation activities.

Special Conditions

  • Employees/Candidates must be cleared by Child Protective Services to work in a Child Caring Institution. Candidates that have lived outside of the State of Michigan must receive clearance from that State.
