DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

The Refrigeration Equipment Mechanic Journeyman will be responsible for all of the duties listed, but not limited to the following below: install, maintain, and repair heating, central air conditioning, or refrigeration systems, hot-air furnaces; performs skilled mechanical work in overhauling and repairing refrigeration and cooling equipment. Work is performed independently in accordance with standard trade practices, and under the general supervision of a Refrigeration Equipment Mechanic Foreman

  • Work Independently with little supervision & perform other duties as assigned
  • Conduct Health and safety inspections
  • Services and repairs electrical units on refrigeration and cooling systems.
  • Assembles and mounts electrical wiring circuits, controls, and recording devices on cooling systems.
  • Balances, adjusts, and sets controls, such as expansion refrigeration and cooling systems.
  • Removes air from systems and charges systems with specified amount and type of refrigerant.
  • Maintains and repairs gas unit heaters and boilers: inspects and replaces gas valves on boilers: sets and controls gas pressure on boilers.
  • Maintains and repairs exhaust fans, air compressors, pumped, and other apparatus.
  • May respond to calls and complaints.
  • In addition to the above work, must complete classes in the theory and practice of the operation and maintenance of power or heating equipment through Operating Engineers Local 324
  • Stationary Engineers education and apprenticeship fund program and acquire City of Detroit Refrigeration and Boiler licenses.
  • Performs other duties assigned.

This position is for the second shift.

ELIGIBLE PERSONS

At the time of application, eligible persons must have:

Education

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D; AND
  • Valid State of Michigan Operators License; AND
  • City of Detroit Refrigeration and Boiler License.
  • Completion of Apprenticeship Program - preferred, but not required

Experience

  • Refrigeration Equipment Mechanic Journeyman
