DESCRIPTION OF MAJOR JOB DUTIES

Laborers in the Roads Division maintain highways and structures on state, municipal and rural roads and rights-of-ways. Duties include litter pick up from roads and freeways, flagging traffic, working an air hammer and post pounder, pounding stakes and posts, mixing concrete, cold patching, shoveling asphalt & debris, changing under blades, assisting in snow and ice operations, use of hand tools, lawn mowers and power tools, and other related duties as assigned. Includes assisting tradesmen with repairs and general maintenance; cleaning shops and bathrooms as needed; performing labor-intensive duties such as jack hammering, shoveling concrete, dirt, and pump house materials.
